Let's Get Real

What's wrong with us? Banks made risky loans, using variable interest rates. Then when it's time for the interest rates to adjust, the homeowners are unable to pay their mortgage and have to give up their homes. Now banks are going belly up and not because they did anything right. I just don't understand.

It appears that sheer greed is driving all the crazy nonsense. Well, greed with the instant gratification society we have today. The banks and mortgage companies are greedy, the real estate agents are greedy and now a lot of people are going to pay the price.

Oh, and what happens? Our federal government wants to bail everybody out....the banks, the homeowners, and anybody else they can find who is impacted by this fiasco.

When that happens, what is the lesson learned? Is life like that ball game you played as a kid where they didn't keep score because they didn't want the youngsters to think they were losers?

That's not what life is all about. In real life there are winners and losers every hour of every day. When you make bad choices, you pay for it, learn from your mistake and move on. It's called experience.

This never-never land of endless gaffs with no accountability for your actions has got to stop. It's time we quit rewarding greed and stupidity.

I keep telling my girls: Actions have consequences. When you do something, something else happens. What you choose to do can make a big difference down the road. John Wayne once said, "Life is hard, it's harder if you're stupid."
