We're on the Mississippi Gulf Coast for a few days of relaxation. Headed down this morning and stopped in Magee at Bops for some frozen custard. At that intersection on HWY 49 we saw four highway patrol cars and one police car parked in the median with blue lights on. All the officers were out of their cars. I thought maybe they were going to check driver's licenses, but found out a family of four on their way to the Gulf Coast on vacation were killed in an accident there yesterday. What a terrible tragedy. My heart goes out to their family.
We are staying at Keesler AFB. This is the best deal for the dollar I can get. As a retired officer, I can get housing here for a small amount. We have a living room, kitchenette, and bedroom with two HDTV's and a Bose radio in absolute mint condition for $48 per night. The last time we stayed here we had two bedrooms and the same everything except for three HDTV's for the same price.
Oh, and there's the minibar menu: Soft drinks, 50 cents. Juices, 85 cents. Beer $1, rum, vodka, gin $1.50, Scotch and wine $2.50. Nabs and peanuts, 50 cents, and popcorn, 70 cents. How's that for value?
One thing we like about the coast is the seafood. This is about the only place we ever eat oysters. Had fried oysters tonight but couldn't get any on the half shell...they're not in season. Bought some raspberry sconces from a little coffee shop for breakfast in the morning.
We're headed to New Orleans in the morning. Prom Queen wants to see the aquarium and I want to see the D-day Museum. If time permits, we're taking the trolly to the Zoo and spend some time there too. It's a great zoo and well worth the trip. Oh yes, coffee and beinets (sp) are on the agenda too. If it takes two days, we'll do it. Want to spend some time in Ocean Springs too.
Brought the camera but forgot the battery charger. Will take pics until the battery goes dead.
We don't have any fixed schedule. That's the way we like it. Just go and stop as we please and do as we please. Life is good.
