Back when our oldest daughter was five years old, a mean little boy a few doors down told her there wasn’t a Santa Claus.
On Christmas Eve, we went to midnight services at church as usual. On the way home, about two blocks away, we drove by a house where there had apparently been a Christmas Eve get together.
Leaving out of the door of the house was the jolly old fat man himself with a full bag over his shoulder. Our daughter looked and perked up. We said, “Look, Santa Claus is close to your house. We better hurry and get in bed.”
When we got home, she ran into her room, dressed for bed and wanted her good night kisses so she could go to sleep immediately.
She told that mean little boy that he fibbed, because she and her Momma and Daddy saw Santa coming out of a house in the neighborhood on Christmas Eve.
Yes indeed, he is real.

Five? That's a shame to start hearing that at such a young age. :(
