Why is it that different model cell phones made by the same manufacturer use different battery chargers? How difficult would it be to make the receptacle the same in all cell phones so that chargers are interchangeable? Really, they all do the same thing don’t they?
Ditto for television remote controls. Why must they be different? You have to purchase the television to get the remote so why make them difficult to operate? My TV in the great room uses a different remote than the one in the basement. They are both made by the same manufacturer, so why the difference? Why do some remotes take triple A batteries while others take double A?
Why can’t printers made by the same manufacturer use the same cables to connect them to the computer? Why do they have different printer drivers?
Why do digital cameras have different connecting cables to computers to allow downloading of the pictures? Why do laptops use different sized plugs for charging purposes?
Why aren’t engineers smart enough to solve these problems? Why don’t consumers demand better?

Here's one: We took pictures last night at church. We were going to upload them to Wal-Mart one hour and hand them out that night. The lady didn't bring the cable to her camera, so we figured we'd take the SD card out of her camera, put it in mine (I keep the cable with me) and upload them. Nope. My camera or computer wouldn't read the card. Arggg. someone had to take the card to Wal-mart and stand in line and hang around for an hour.
Yea, if they did, they wouldn't make any money on the accessories then! It irritates me, too.
